Next Meeting Tuesday 1 December 11.00am

Hi Everyone,

On Tuesday, we'll look a a totally free editing program with punch equal to Final Cut Pro X, Premier and all the other very expensive programs, and it runs both on Apple and on PCs. (I wish I had known of this when we did our Movie Making classes). But it's never too late, we'll look at it closely.

While in Melbourne I had a chance to visit the set of the TV drama WENTWORTH while they were filming. I'll have some shots of their equipment.

SEE YOU TUESDAY

SOUTH BANK
BRISBANE MARKETS
CITY MARKETS

please send us your suggestions.

Nearly the end of our first year

Hi Everyone,

We are nearly at the end of our first year and we are going to change a few things for next term.

When we started this group following our Movie Making classes in the previous terms, we envisaged to run this group as a workshop with everybody working on their own projects during our meetings. But for some reason or other (mainly technical) it wasn't possible.

We have now decided that we will operate this "CLUB" like our very successful camera club. So from our first meeting in the next term, we'll start off with a SHOW AND TELL segment where members show the meeting a short video of 2 minutes or less, then we'll talk about a video subject. I would dearly love members to get involved in researching or talking about a subject, like Roy has expertly done at the last meetings, thank you Roy.

Like the camera club, we will go on field trips to capture footage then present edited versions at the meeting.

I will appreciate your feedback on that proposition, please.

END Of YEAR GET TOGETHER

On Tuesday 15 December, after the meeting, say 1.00pm, you are all invited to 45 Highview Terrace for a get together and a chinwag about our 'new' club and it's direction. Diane and I will provide some drinks. Please bring a plate.

Today's Meeting

Hi everyone,

Today, we showed the finished short movie PEOPLE LIKE YOU. Lark joined us for the viewing.

If you want to see the You Tube version CLICK HERE.

One of our next projects is producing promo videos for Logan District U3A  classes for the Brisbane website. When prospective members check our classes offered on line, they will have a chance to see what't the classes or groups are doing. Some examples of promos are here:

Beading class - BEADING CLASS
Travel Group - TRAVEL GROUP
Camera Club - CAMERA CLUB
Movie Goers Group - MOVIE GOERS GROUP

It would be nice for more people getting involved in shooting these promos. Please let me know if you can help, so far we have teams for PAINTING FOR PLEASURE, GERMAN and MAH JONG but there are many more classes for which we can produce promos.

Please let me know.

But, our short film over, we now have time to help members with their own projects. So one along next Tuesday and bring your gear, so we can do that.

We won't be editing PEOPLE LIKE YOU on Tuesday, but rather on Thursday at my place where we have better equipment and better editing equipment.

So instead, bring your laptops and assemble your BEHIND THE SCENES videos you shot last Tuesday. Those of you who couldn't make it, bring along your own laptops and work on your own projects as the workshop is intended.

Our Production is in the can

Weren't we just so lucky to get these three young actors for our first ever production. It also taught us that there is much more to making movies than expected. I was extremely pleased with the group getting involved and coming up with suggestions. It'll be fun editing this film.

Here is a trailer for it:

Well done everybody and many thanks for being part of it.

Next Meeting - Tuesday 11.00am

Hi Everyone,

Are we ready for action on Tuesday? Lark, Nathan and Trae, our talent arrive for the shoot of PEOPLE LIKE YOU. Le and I have been playing with the sound recording equipment, Le purchased at great expense, only to find out that it didn't work, Speaking to the supplier in Sydney, they think we were give a faulty wireless microphone and they have despatched a new one Express Post on Thursday afternoon, so hopefully it arrives on Monday, ready for the shoot.

Last Tuesday we had some problems laying out the set so we didn't have any rails, whiteboard, kitchenette in the shots. I think the layout below will work. especially the TV on the wall will be displaying the name of the cafe and the menu, making it look more realistic for a cafe scene.

The only worry I have is, will we be able to shoot all 50 scenes in 90 minutes? I hope so.

Don't forget, to bring your cameras and shoot Behind the Scenes clips.

Getting Ready for Action

We had our tech rehearsal today for next week's shoot of PEOPLE LIKE YOU. Just as well as we had a few problems turning the meeting room into a coffee shop, but I think we have it sorted, ready for our three young actors, LARK LEE (Isabelle), NATHAN HEDGER (David) and TRAE ROBIN (Will). Cameraman Le and myself will have another meeting at my place to get better acquainted with the Canon cameras and the sound recording equipment.

Sheila took a couple of shots from today's meeting.

Roy demonstrates his camera slider which we'll use in the production

Grappling with one of the Canon cameras

We would like everybody not directly involved in the shoot, to film a "Behind the Scene" segment. We can edit those in future meetings.

LET'S HVE FUN NEXT WEEK.

Tuesday 6 October 2015

First MeetingOur first

Hi Everyone,

We had our first meeting this morning. members brought along short videos for us to enjoy.

Then we got down to discuss our first project. With the help of a group of local amateur actors, we're going to shoot a short film PEOPLE LIKE YOU, written by Anjali Warland. It's a play in one act, playing in a restaurant, where a young couple have an argument involving the waiter.

So we're planning to transform our library meeting room (or at least one corner) into a coffee shop.

Our first meeting

So, next Tuesday we are having a Tech Run, which means we're going through each scene, setting up camera angles, rehearse the scenes (minus the actors) and generally get everything ready for the proper shoot.

First Production Meeting
So, please can everybody bring along the props we discussed to transform a corner of the meeting room into a cafeteria.

Get Ready

Hi Everyone,

Not long to go before we embark on our Videographers' Workshop.

TUESDAY 6 OCTOBER 11.00am AT THE LIBRARY

To get a bit of a feel of the class, I ask you all to bring along a 1-2 minute video you have produced we all can have a look at. If you have never done any videos, don't worry about it. However, most of you have completed one of the Movie Making classes this year so you probably have done some videos to show us. Just bring them along on a memory stick in MP4 or MOV format. (Wondershare Projects won't work on my Macbook).

For those of you who haven't done the Movie Making Class in the past, bring along a memory stick so I can give you the Lesson Notes anyway.

U3A is starting a Videographers' Workshop Group

We'll discuss equipment
In Term 4, starting on Tuesday 6 October, U3A offers video enthusiasts a chance to meet and share with like minded people on Tuesdays at the Logan North Library. The VIDEOGRAPHERS' WORKSHOP will be a self-help forum. Like any workshop, people can come to work on their own projects, seeking help from others. Or they can work in groups planning, shooting and editing video projects.

Editing software
From time to time, we'll endeavour to work on group projects, involving anyone interested. People will be encouraged to use their own editing software packages presently available on the market. They can do this on their own laptops, or simply gather ideas to work with at home. Occasionally, we'll have guest speakers talking about their projects and ideas.

People will be encouraged to bring along some of their video work to be shared by the group. This will not be a competition and no prizes will be awarded.

And filming techniques
We'll meet between 11.00am and 12.30pm in the meeting room on the first floor.

This workshop is open to members of Brisbane University of the Third Age. To become a member, please visit U3A on line at http://www.u3abrisbane.org.au/index.php/how-to-join or phone the Brisbane Office during working hours on Phone:  (07) 3236 3055
